Farmall C restoration

I recently bought a C model to restore and use. The serial # is 9273. A couple of early questions. The manifold is the orginal distillate type, but it is rusted with a split in the bottom. I assume that it is OK to replace it with a non-distillate gas manifold. I also noticed that the starter button on the starter is backwards. To start you need to push on the rod instead of pull as the manuall describes. Is this because the starter has been changed or because the contact on the starter is too worn to work in the correct position. This board is a great resource. I am sure that as I proceed I will have additional questions. Thanks.
