Dave - Here's a few things to try (in order); 1 - Make sure the ammeter is working! Turn on the ignition or the lights (engine stopped) and see if the ammeter indicates discharge. 2 - With the motor running at 1/2 throttle or faster, jumper the BAT and GEN terminals at the cutout. If the ammeter now shows charge, you're cutout is bad. If still no charge... 3 - With the motor still running, jumper the generator F terminal to a good ground. If the ammeter shows charge, there's a problem in the wiring between the generator and the light switch, or in the light switch/field resistor on the light switch itself. If still no charge, the problem's in the generator. 4 - If you verify the generator's the problem, remove the dust band from the commutator end and peek inside. You might get lucky and find a stuck or badly worn brush. Otherwise it's time to take it to the generator shop. Hope this helps....Bob M
