I guess there is a reason for the funny plugs. Has to do with the design of the chamber in the head that releases the compression for gas operation. Use the correct plugs, even though they do cost $7.00 each. Like Ralph says, pull back the starting lever first when switching to diesel to minimize plug fouling. Also, switch back to gas when shutting down and then turn off the gas under the tank to run the gas out of the carb and kill the engine. This burns out residual diesel fuel and makes it easier to start next time. After the engine dies be sure to pull the starting lever back to the diesel position so the starting valves can cool on their seats and not warp. Better to shut down on diesel than to forget to pull the lever back and close those starting valves.
