Gene: How many hours are on the tractor? Is a valve job in order? What's the tractor history? Is it new to you or have you had it some time? Has it ever run properly for you? Has it sat unused for long periods? A cylinder leak down test cold and hot may tell you something about it. You might pull the valve cover to check the general condition. Is the top end clean and well lubricated? Even though you've done a lot of ignition work the problem may still lurk there. What about the plug wires, cap, etc. general condition of distributor and advance mech as well as distributor shaft bushings. Make sure the dist mech is grounded properly. Often times I will run a ground from the rotating advance plate to the case inside and one from the case on the outside to the block. What is the frequency of the miss once it starts to miss? Does it miss 1 time each minute of running or once every 10 seconds or once every 5 to 10 minutes? Very intermittent missing can have many hard to find causes but is usually spark or mixture related. Mixture leaning out warming up? Spark not getting to it's destination every time? Verify proper alignment of the rotor to the cap at the instant the points open. I think to resolve this you are in for some serious detective work to go over everything you've done with a fine tooth comb. Insure that all related engine components are top condition and all timing, carb, valve djustments and cam timing are correct. Can you simulate the miss by grounding a single plug wire for a brief instant. Does the simulated miss sound the same? I could probably go on and on with the miriad of things that could be the root of your grief. Maybe you will stumble on to something from what I've written. Good luck

Women and Tractors - Tractor Engine Repair - by Teri Burkholder. One of the great things about working on a tractor engine with your other half is that you know what he is thinking of at all times and can anticipate his every move and his next thought of what he will do. With Ben, anyway, I can tell! He'll be busy working and I’m handing him tools and he says, "give me that..." and I’ve already got it in his hand or "hand me that....."and I’ve got the portable light right where he needed it placed to see. "Run in the house and get me a...."as I open th
