Thanks for your feedback. To answer your questions, the tractor has 1927 hours on it. It is a 1973 model that I bought when it had less than 500 hours on it. I knew the prior owner well, and it was less than two years old at the time. It ran fine for years without this problem, which started about 5 - 6 years ago. Since I didn't use the tractor a whole lot, it didn't bother me too much. The miss is predictable that it will occur on a warm or hot day. The intervals between misses are unpredictable, sometimes just one miss, sometimes two or more in a row (sounds like not a pattern regarding what cylinder is missing out). When it starts missing on a hot day, I would estimate 5 to 10 misses per minute. Sometimes more, sometimes less. Not sure about condition of the valves or whether a valve job is needed, as I haven't opened up the engine. It has been used sparingly in the winter, but not been just sitting stored away, as it used to feed cattle. There is one thing that may be a clue, in that the miss seems to happen when the engine is warm or hot, but I also noticed that anytime after the engine is started, that it will "miss" when it is idling, sometimes more sometimes less. It has a kind of popping noise it makes, and raw gas is more noticable. What that means, not sure. Again, thanks for the valuable list of things to try.
