I pulled the Steering box apart on my 47 Super A this last Saturday looking for the slop in the steering wheel. I think I found it in worn woodruff key slots on the sector gear and on the steering arm that is connected to the bottom of the shaft. The steering arm and the shaft are tapered and it looks like I just need to put a washer on the bottom of the shaft so that the nut can put pressure on the arm. The real question is what to do about the worn woodruff key slot on the sector key? I have thought about using some JB weld, but want to be able to remove the gear later on, if I ever need to. I thought about putting a shim in there and also about getting an over sized key and filing to fit. All of the bushings and bearings seem to be in very good condition, as do the sector gear and the other gear. What have others done to correct these problems?
