Hey All, I have a '60 140 with a Woods L59 mowing deck on it, and *very* hilly property. The Woods mowing deck will not add any measurable stability because it is basically hanging underneath the belly of the tractor (although it is hinge mounted to the rear struts) - it will not keep you from flipping over if you are careless. That said, I have about 5 acres of grass - about half of that on fairly steep hills. Admittedly, there are times when I'm mowing that I "feel" off balance, or uncomfortable with the degree of slope, although the 140 is firmly on the gound. On the really steep places, I go straight up and straght down. (Never take the tractor out of gear when mowing on a hill - *never*.) Front to back the tractor is much more stable than side to side - in fact when tugging a stump once with the chain hooked (stupidly) to the rocker-arm shaft instead of the drawbar (yep, here comes an almost Darwin Award confession), the chain was tight, and the 140 was pulling slowly when my foot slipped off the clutch. Well, the 140 popped a wheelie just as pretty as you please...held it too, chain tight to the stump! Once my heart started beating again, and I realized I needed to push the clutch in again the nose came down again with no damage to the tractor...almost needed to change my shorts after that one...*but* it gave me new respect for my 140, and taught me to think damn hard about where I'm hooking my load to... Anyway, others have commented - always try to keep the engine side uphill if going "across" a hill...also, if you feel unsteady on the hill, lowering your speed also helps... Cheers, Pete
