I just went through this type of problem on my B. I had the 6V generator upgraded to 12V. I didn't think it was charging and took it back and told the guy. He tested it and said it works fine. I did this 2 times. The third time the generator guy came out to my place and sure enough - not turning fast enough. He put different field windings in and now it works great - about 7 amps at 1/2 throttle. Take it to a good generator man and tell him to make sure to he understands the low rpm application. I think a B runs the generator at about 2200 rpm max. Your doing the right thing going to 12V.
