Steve, I think the biggest problem will be finding the parts. Before you start, you will want to get a parts manual and service manual. I believe if you already have a transmission driven (not live) PTO, the final drive part is the same. The "live" part happens inside the transmission. You have at least a different countershaft, a live PTO shaft and gear set, which sits just in front of the transmission countershaft, the "seasonal disconnect" coupler, and a different, concentric transmission input shaft. I believe the engine clutch may be different also. At the very least you will have to split the tractor to get at the transmission. Probably a very heavy job with lots of opportunities for smashed fingers. In other words, it could be a lot of fun. As for needing power steering with a loader, I can only speak from experience with a W-4 with a small loader. Unless you want a workout every time you drive it, you will want power steering. But if you are willing to expend the effort to add live PTO, adding power steering should be no more difficult. Probably more parts to track down, but easier to get at.
