It sounds like you are losing the 12 volt feed to the ignition coil when you release the start switch. Did you check over your wiring? Put a voltmeter across the 12 volt side of the coil, then start it and watch the meter while you release the start switch. If that theory holds up the meter would show zero volts when you let go of the switch. Trace the the wiring back from the coil. It should go to switched side of the run/stop switch. Don't put it on the battery side or you won't be able to shut it off. Good Luck!
