I am in the process of taking apart my F-20 right now and replacing the gears. on the F-20 there are shims behind the front bearing to move the pinion in and out. this sets the tooth engagment which should be fully contacting along the entire flank of the tooth. the other adjustment moves the ring gear side to side to get final backlash setting. my shop manual indicates using dykem blue on the teeth when setting and to observe the contact area when free running. this should be a small area of about 1/8 wide on the small diameter of the pinion and ring gear. the clearance for the F-20 is .008-.010, but is listed for F-12 as .005-.007 so you brobally have correct #s. be shure you dont have somthing missaliged due to dirt under one of the bearings. i think you best bet will be to apply dyekem blue and see where you contact is.
