I split my 3514 yesterday and am now working on getting the forward drive spline out (all it's splines are broken off). Working from the input shaft end and first access cover, I've removed the front bearing and PTO input shaft, the clip holding the clutch shaft oil seal carrier and the clip holding the clutch shaft bearing cage (that one's just inside the reverser section). I can move the clutch shaft oil seal carrier, but only about 1/8 inch until it contacts the big PTO driven gear. The seal carrier has a small ball in it that prevents rotation and across from the ball there is a half-moon cutout that looks like it may allow clearance to make it by the PTO driven gear. There's room for the ball to come out, but it's slippery and stuck. If I can get the ball out, I can proceed, I think, by rotating the clutch shaft oil seal carrier to bring the half moon cutout down where the PTO driven gear is in the way. This is where I wonder if I'm even using the correct approach. I have a parts manual, but no transmission service manual. There's a large square plug at the level of the PTO driven gear shaft. Do I need to pull that (and probably seperate the reversing gearbox from the rest of the transmission), then remove the PTO driven shaft to get the driven gear to drop down out of the way of the clutch shaft oil seal carrier? Will I need to do that anyway to get the clutch shaft bearing and cage out? It looks like the forward drive spline must come out that front bearing hole, but I don't know for sure. Has anybody here done this job? - or have the transmission manual and can give me a hint? Thanks, Klaus

Talk of the Town: How to Remove a Broken Bolt - by Staff. Another neat discussion from the Tractor Talk Discussion Forum. The discussion started out with the following post: "I have an aluminum steering gear housing with a bolt broken off in it. The bolt is about a 3/8" x 1 1/2" bolt. I've already drilled the center of the bolt out with about 7/64" drill bit the entire length of the bolt. Only one end of the bolt is visible. I tried to use an easy out but it wasn't budging and I didn't want t
