It can be tough going with a cycle bar mower in downed hay. At the very least it won't get cut as short when mowing the same direction it is tipped. It is also easier to plug the mower. If its a small field and you can spare the time you get mow it a lot easier if you cut only from the direction its tipped. If its very flat to the ground then nothing helps. Usually flat hay will perk up a bit after the rain is done. Good luck with it.
