Thanks for the info. I don't have any facilities for even splitting the tractor (tractor too high to fit in 2 car garage + no hoists, lifts or even a concrete or paved surface to park the tractor on!). However, my farmer neighbor is said to be a master IH mechanic who fixes tractors for the locals around here. I'll probably entrust this particular job to him. May have him look at the flywheel-clutch-tranny system too, insofar as there is a distinct whine when engine spins at anything above idle. Its not too loud and may be normal, but I'll have check it anyway.
