Mark, I just finished rebuild my engine from my 300- about 1500 bucks- not counting the new head I had to buy- the engine was stuck. I stripped it down to the block and took it to the pros for the sleeves, crank work, and valve job. The rest of the tractor is still being preped for paint. If I could do it again, I'd buy a tractor that runs well, or just buy and engine out of a H Super H, or another 300. It seems it would be a much cheaper way to go(I passed on an running engine for $150!). But if you plan to work it hard and you can get the tracotor real cheap, the rebuilding costs are not that bad in the long run. Both tractors are great workhorses. The M has more power, but less options. The 300 has live hyraulics, live pto-which is a huge plus for baling. Not to mention the T/A gives you an extra set of gear combinations. Hope this helps.
