thermostat for super c

Dear Anyone who knows,
I ordered a thermostat for my super c and when I went to pick it up it was not the same as the one I took out of the tractor. This new one was flat without a flange? The dealer said that a collar comes with it for $20. some odd dollars Canadian, but they did not order it because the did not think I needed it. Could the new thermostst be in two pieces? Would over $4o. be a little expensive as I really need it.
