Late timing will cause overheating but shouldn't make exhaust fire. The engines run slow enough combustion should be complete by the time the exhaust valve opens. You may have an exhaust valve sticking open. I'd put MMO in the gas to see if it helps. Does it miss when it fires out the exhaust? Is it under load? Do you have a muffler? Is the mixture rich? I've got an LB and never noticed fire, but all the big Farmalls will run a little red flame out the stack when they are loaded and running right.
