Super M hydrolic question

I am trying to strip my 1953 Super M for pulling. I am taking all of the hydrolic lines off, but keeping the reservoir for the time being. I need to know whether capping the live pump by the distributer will damage it without having any oil flowing through it, or should I just have a couple of lines made up, and plumb them directly off of the reservoir. Also if it holds any relivance to my question, I have the auxiliary control valve.
