I was thinking today, why not run synthetic oil in these old tractors. I think I would try it on a rebuilt engine, being that you wouldn't have to contend with the old non-synthetic oil & sludge. I know Mobil now offers a 0w-30 & and 0w-40 oil that, to me seems like a great choice (as it would stay really stable in all temps.). I'm a big fan of synthetic oils. I run a VW Golf TDi that has always run synthetic. I have been talking to a friend who has pretty much convinced me to move to a synthetic fleet oil. Pretty much change the filter every 5000 miles, and the oil every 30-40,000 miles. He runs 2 Volvo diesels that all have 300,000+ using this method. So I thought it just might be fun to discuss, what do you guys think?
