Ludwig, One wire at a time is the correct way to do it. As you replace each wire, determine it's gague and replace it with a wire of equal or larger gague so the current won't overload the wire and melt the insulation. If you can get it, there is wire that is insulated with Teflon. It's very slick and is highly heat resistant. It may be very expensive as we used to use it at work on the DOD stuff we were building. As for color, if you can't match the original, use unique colors for each circuit so you can tell in the future what you're working on. This requires that you document the colors so you don't forget and so anyone else can figure it out too. There are aftermarket replacement harnesses for sale out there in the $75 range if you find that this is more than you want to do after you get into it. Good luck, Phil
