What to use for wires

Hello all,
I want to do a light overhaul of great uncle's Super M this summer before I launch into rebuilding my Regular, change all fluids, clean things, new lightbulbs etc....
One of the ideas I had was to replace some of the wiring. The machine is a 52 I think and the wiring can't be all that great. I thought that for most of it I'd just do one wire at a time and take it slow, but I'm not sure what to use. I know I need new battery terminals, but what else should I do, lets not forget the lights either, theres two forward ones off the steering column and one rearward under the seat.
What size wire should I use? Colors? I'd like to keep it looking pretty stock.
