Marvin: I'd try using a small wire wheel on an electric dril to clean the threads and or use a short un-needed piece of pipe with several hacksaw cuts across the threads as a make do thread cutter to clean the threads some(unless you have a tap that size)) Cleaning hard crud is about it.. r. ((you were lucky it came apart that easy)
