Successfully removed the short pipe on exhaust manifold on Super A

The muffler has been flopping around on my Super a since the pipe connecting between the muffler and the exhaust manifold has worn thin and has been bent in. So last night I put some penetrating oil on the threads or I tried to. I have been concerned about trying to take this apart since I was sure that it would be forever seized together. I took a chisel and a hammer and caved in the pipe at four locations around the base of the pipe. I was able to get the pipe to fold in pretty well to where I could see the threads fairly well. I then took a pipe wrench with a cheater bar and popped it loose. The threads in the manifold still look pretty good. I am going out this afternoon after work and get a new piece of water pipe from Home Depot. Should I put anything on the threads of the pipe before installing?
