How big is the brush hog you're trying to use? I have a 41 H and everybody tells me a 5 or 6 ft is about the limit of the tractors horse power capacity. As far as the hydraulics using a dual acting cylinder the way you are, you will get oil out of the vent hose until all the old oil is cleared from that part of the cylinder (down pressure side) if it doesn't clear up after several times of raising the hog and letting it down, the cylinder must have a leak around the piston somewhere. Hope this helps, the H is a great machine and even though it doesn't have a lot of horsepower by todays standards it will accomplish most tsks admirably.
