Get a sevice manual and adjust it , might get lucky. As for them causing trouble, most is in the way they are used. We ahd a 350 whenI was a kid, and the dealer told us that when we pull into low range, or release to high range, con't let the TA clutch slip. Pulli t back quickly when shifting to high range. squeeze the release lever and let it go. Ours lasted quite a few years before we had to work on it, and we used it hard. Most of the plowing was done in 3rd TA, it seemed.
