Are you sure these are not hubs and wheels from a very early Farmall M ? The 1939 Farmall M's had 36 inch wheels and 2.75 inch axle. There are two other possibilities. One is someone had a 340 hub machined out to fit the larger 2.75 inch axle and the other concerns the serial number. Is yours a very low serial number, that is close to 501. I noticed that one of the original sales brochures showed the 504 with 36 inch rims but this was blotted out in red and had 38 inch printed in red beside it. Did IH produce a few with 36 inch wheels right at the start of production ? Those are the only possibilities I can think of.
