Your tractor is over 50 years old (you already knew that) and galvanizing or cadium plating is not a super durable finish. How often does it last on new bolts? A couple years if it is exposed to much weather. Who knows? maybe your rims weren't plated, maybe they were. But it is concievable that all of the coating could be gone after 50 yrs. I have an '50 MM U that never had calcium in the tires. When I took the tires off,
the inside of the rims was still shiny silver
cad or galv. I made this tractor in to a puller and used different rims. The rims have been sitting outside for a few (shame on me)years and now there is almost no trace of the plating.
