If You look closely under the little stamped steel cup shaped piece at the bottom of the gear shift lever You'll see 2 small, about 1/2" dia. steel plugs. Chances are one may have a hole in it that You could stick a punch in and drive out the steel pin the gearshift lever pivots on. Once it's out of the way a big screwdriver is all that's needed to line up the slots for the bottom of the gearshift lever in the tops of the shifting forks. Dad's old '39 H was doing that 30+ yrs ago.
