Ben - If it's IHC powered, it counts in my book!! Sounds like you have low compression on the cylinder that drops out. Presuming the valves are OK, renewing the rings on the offending cylinder should fix the problem. Hard part's gonna be locating a ring set. Question: Does the motor have a thermostat and is it working? If the motor is running too cold it could drop a cylinder when running in the diesel cycle and under light load... I'd be hesitant about applying a turbocharger to a UD-14. I saw it done once to a TD-24 but it wound up with durability problems. Not sure if problems were in the motor or the drive train, but the TD-24 was swapped for a D-8 Cat a few months later. Also unless you can turn up the injection pump to take advantage of the extra combustion air, adding a turbo won't add any noticable performance. (It'll sound cool though!) Far as I'm aware the TD-14 crawler uses the same motor as UD-14 power unit - i.e. the engines are interchangeable.
