Based upon your price limit, your best bet in that range is the 350U. Its a little more refined than the 300, although nearly all that I have seen do not have power steering (something you really need to do loader work and the reason I passed up a number of 350s). One of the shortcomings with the 350 and older tractors was that the loaders available then were often not especially versatile. They often were trip type and not designed to do really heavy work. So you really need to find a more modern loader for the 350, but they are a rare find. I think Don H is right in recommending the 424/434/early 444. They seem to be fairly plentiful and often had the features you are looking for, especially power steering. They were the follow on generation tractors for the 350 and could be had with a heavy duty loader like the 2000 series, although most seem to have been purchased with a lighter duty loader, like the 1600 series. They were available with gas or diesel (most often I've seen gas, which will save you $1,000 - $1, 500). Another IH utility tractor of this era to consider is the 340. Its about the same hp as the 424 (about 35 hp), but does not have all the extra features (single range tranny, single 530 pto, etc). Price is usually about $500 less than a comprable 424. Power steering was an option with the 340, but you do not find many with it, nor do you find many with a loader. Parts availability with both the 4_4 series and 340 are good considering their ages.

We traveled for six and a half hours to our destination - a little country town with a population of no more then one hundred and fifty people (57 of them being children under the age of thirteen). We arrived hoping to meet up with a man we knew had over one
