That worm gear can be a real #)*^&@! to get loose from the pivot shaft. A couple things that help: 1 - Remove the lower bolster and wheel assembly at the pivot shaft flange. This makes your hammer hits much more effective by reducing the mass of the pivot shaft assembly. 2 - Use a piece of soft metal plate (aluminum, brass, etc) instead of wood to protect the threaded end of the pivot shaft when hammering. You need to get as hard a hit as possible without buggering the threads - a wood block absorbs too much of the blow. Be sure to put something (besides your toes!) under the pivot shaft flange to catch it when the gear lets go because the shaft drops out FAST, and it's heavy!
