Sven - A few quick things to do first: 1 - Make sure all the wiring connections are correct, both at the generator and at the regulator. 2 - Make sure the rgulator base is solidly grounded. 3 - Polarize the generator (use a jumper to connect the BAT and GEN terminals at the regulator for an instant).

If that doesn't cure the problem, start and run the motor at 1/2 throttle. Connect a jumper wire between the BAT and GEN terminals at the regulator. If the the system now charges, the regulator is no good.

If that doesn't do it, connect the jumper between the generator F terminal and a good ground. If the system now charges, the problem's again with the regulator. If it still does NOT charge, something's wrong with the generator.
