Kendall, I've done that a few times. My recollection is that the bearings are not tapered and there are no races. My suggestion is for you to check the tightness of the 5/8" fine thread bolt that is holding the whole assy. together. It's inside your sead plate drive. It may be loose or the spacer between the flat washer and the inside bearing may be worn. In short the inner baering, outer bearing, axel, etc. is sandwiched together by means of the big bolt on the inside, the white metal four bolted ouside end cap with bearings and spacers in between. I'd check the bolt. etc before I'd go nuts tearing the assy. apart.
