This is just to give you an idea of what a good belt will do, its out of my head from experience with steam engines and not out a book and depends on pulley sizes and condition of belt. 8" - 150hp.,7" - 100hp. 6" - 70hp., 5" -40hp. these are based on a belt speed created by a flywheel of 36-40in. in dia.turning @250rpm. -so roughly 10'x 250= 2500ft/min. It is also a good practise to put a piece of 1 x 4 in between the front tire and the belt and rear tire and belt if back edge of pulley is in line with rear tire to prevent belt from wrecking rubber tires . It may not look like it could rub but believe me it will . Always twist belt into the wind so the slack side of belt returning to tractor is held in position by the tight(power) side.
