The Front assisted 4x4 tractor are superior to the 2wd'd. The upkeep is a minimal addition. The previous post said backing up hay wagons are impossible, could he be talking about 4 wheel hay wagons with a tongue. They are impossible to back up with almost any tractor. I know this is another discussion but the only easy way to move a 4 wheel wagon is with the hitch on the front of the tractor. Then you can manipulate it more easily.
4x4 articulated tractors are better than 2wd because you don't have to brake on corners.
