I have a 48 H that had a generator that was non operable when I bought it, there was no belt or any wiring to the generator. It has a magneto and could be used for a few weeks with out charging the battery. The magneto does not draw power from the battery. It had a habit of running low on charge at the most inoppertune times, so I did convert it to a 12 volt alternator. I can't imagine the battery would last very long if your using the lights much with out a charging system.
