Oh man, those WERE the days. Our place wasn't big enough to keep three boys busy so I worked out at the neighbors for several years. They had a 4020 and one of the first 806's. Being a demo tractor, the 806 had the pump opened up and really had snort. We used the 4020 to rake hay and also as a front end weight for the 806! Then there was a 1206 and it was a hoot with that straight pipe. I cultivated zillions of acres of corn and beans with a SMTA and IH rear mount cultivator. It's still there and has my name on it I believe. When I was in college I came home one weekend just in time to break in dad's new 856. He bought it and a 5 bottom semi mounted plow for $10,000. I can still smell the new paint burning off the muffler. He passed on a demo 1456 that a friend bought and I ran than off and on while going to school, doing custom work and pulling 7-16's (Later on dad needed a second tractor and bought--you guessed it--a 1030 Case). Now that you guys have brought this up, I'm going to finish this '45 H and go looking for an 8 or 1206. Just what I need here in suburban Spokane to keep the neighbors on their toes! Thanks for the memories, Wes

It was on one such Saturday in the early 1940's when Sam was 16 years old that he ended up in Dennison, Kansas to watch a demonstration of a new tractor being put on by a local dealer. It was an Allis-Chalmers tractor dealership,
