I have converted my farmall cub over to 12v with the exception of the starter. The starter is still the original Delco-Remy 6V unit. I have a 400 CCA 12 battery in my cub and when I hit the starter two things are blatently obvious: 1) the nose gear in the starter engages the flywheel violently and 2) the engine spins over twice as fast as necessary - i.e. when the engine fires it has to actually slow down to come to an idle. When I look at the 12v conversion kits elsewhere on this site they make mention of a "12v resistor". Is this resistor something I can place in-line between the battery and the starter to eat up some voltage before it hits the starter? Has anyone had their starter re-wound or converted to 12v? I'm on the road to breaking my ring gear and want to save my tractor from this abuse.

Flax provided the fibre which w
