The hitch plates you are talking about were actually part of the PTO option. They were to extend the drawbar to the proper hitch length for using PTO implements. The longer one was for the H and M, the shorter one for the A/Super A. There were a lot of these hitch plates around, because every tractor equipped with a PTO came with one. I found one for my MD at a local salvage yard.
