Timing cover removal

Hello folks, and Happy Holidays:
I have need to inspect the timing gears on my '47 M, and I am wondering what the general procedure for dealing with the hand crank cross pin lock screw (located on the crank snout) is?
The lock screw is siezed and won't come out. Do you just drill it out, or is there another trick. I certainly don't want to take the heat wrench (torch) to it. Will the hand crank cross pin just tap out? Curious little dilema...
