My Oldsmobile service manual says to drill a small hole paralell to the bottom of a grove(opposite of a tooth)and wrap the ring and flywheel in a rag and hit the ring with a hammer in the direction that would take it off. It should break the old ring. That will save the tiny bit of wear you might get that would let the new ring slip on the flywheel. It also said to heat the ring to put it back on. Olds and farmall ring gears can't be too much different and might have even been made by the same supplier.
