farmall h magneto and generator!help!

this old h has always been a good runner until i decided to put new points on the mag. well after i put the points on the mag and got it back together she sparked but the tractor wouldnt start. i tried to time it to the engine but now no spark. i believe dad said he also turned the rotor but it seems to be correct. i cant figure it out. also my generator is dead, i am going to have it rebuilt but is there anything important i could look for such as brush condition? thanks
