touchcontrol block

I'm going though the touch controls on my 300U, while taking apart the first one the block as is shown in the exploded diagram was there as expected, then as I turned it over to remove the rear housing a second "homemade" one fell out! It was another 1/4" longer than the stock one, about 3/4" of an inch long. What is the purpose of the block and why would anyone put more than one in? The tractor used to have a front loader on it and this control was used for the bucket if I remember correctly. More than anything I'm curious why?
