If you're going to have your generator rewound or repaired for 12 volts make sure your regulator matches it. Otherwise your regulator will smell like overcooked beans. Your 6 volt starter can handle 12 volts as long as you don't crank it too long. Some have stripped flywheel ring teeth and starter teeth using a 6 volt starter on 12 volts. You didn't say what model you have. In my opinion you shouldn't need 12 volts to start an A or C type Farmall. If you're dealing with a H or M type - maybe.
