I agree with Bill and Bob. I'll add that an old engine that had leaded fuel run in it for years has enough lead imbedded in the valves and seats to provide whatever lubrication is needs, at least until the next valve job. One more observation, some people attempt to avoid "valve problems" by having hardened vavle seats, high tech valves and whatever put into an engine that had prefectly serviceable valves in it. Why bother? What are these serious valve problems? The common concern is "recession of the valves" -- valves wearing into the seats. So what is the big deal even if you have this problem? You have to get it fixed. How do you fix it? New valves and seats. Forget about it and wait until this fictional problem actually shows up. Why do a fix for a POSSIBLE problem when it will take the same fix if it does happen?
