I have to take exception to some of the replies to your message. Lead was originally added to gasoline for 2 reasons, to boost the octane level and to lubricate upper cylinder parts especially valves and valve seats. True today's gas has more than enough octane for older tractors, but what about lubricating those valves & seats? If you use your tractor hard and it hasn't been overhauled with new style valves & seats, your engine is at risk for pitting the valves & seats. You won't notice it right away, but you're not doing your engine any favors. I figure it's worth 5 cents a gallon to put a lead additive in my tractors, but then I also use name brand oil instead of the dime store stuff.
