My guess is the strange green fluid was anti-freeze. You must be in the south if your running just rusty water. You should have left the strange green fluid, it does have properties which protect your cooling system from rust and other detioration. It is not just anti-freeze, its also a conditioner. My Super A has the same radiator that came on it in 1953. Because of cold climate we run anti-freeze year round. I can remember back in the 1950 s farmers around here didn't use their tractors much in winter. (every farm still had horses) If they wanted to use the tractor they would fil it with water and drain it at the end of the day. Radiators detiorated quite quickly. Solution, fill it with anti-freeze.
