986/1486

was the 1486 built stronger than the 986? I know they have the same motor (DT436 & D436 Resp.) and that the 1086 and up have a 14"clutch rather than the 12" in the 986 and under, but what about behind the clutch. Looking throug parts books and it seems like all transmission parts and rear end parts were the same except for the 1586. If they are the same, was the 1486 underbuilt for its HP? Looking at buying a 1486, but finding alot of 986's in good shape with low hours for the same price as poor looking 1486's. Thought adding a turbo and 14" clutch might be a better buy than the 1486.
