Bob has two real good ideas. The delco internal alternator has a double wire plug on the side of it. ONe wire is hot, the other must be switched off when tractor is not running or it will drian down battery as you say. Wonder how it was wired? If the outside regulator is not in use, it shoud also have the hot wire disconnected. It could have contacts stuck and grounding.
