TerryC: You seem to be wondering if you can get by with less replaced parts such as pistons\sleeves etc. Well.. you havn't determined yet if your loss of compression is mostly due to the head or from the piston rings?? Did it use a lot of oil? Your #2 and #3 cylinders are low so that could be possible a gasket leak between them? Just a guess but possible that only a "top" overhaul could get you by. Is that OK with you or are you wanting to spend more $$ and time and rebuild everything? Most on these forums would suggest doing everything..IF we are using your money(grin). A squirt of oil(tablespoon) on top of the rings will change the compression test a LOT if its poor rings. That squirt of oil will change nothing if it's leaking in the head by way of cracks\leaks or from valves. Hope this gives you some options to consider befor starting. I'd start with the oil squirt test as it's cheap & quick. Then plan on removing head as 1st step in restoring compression. How was you oil pressure when working? OK or low due to worn bearings? Best of luck to ya. R.
